Investing in talent
One of the first expenditures to suffer cutbacks during tough economic times is training. However, making such reductions is a false economy which can only store up problems for the future.
So why should companies that are watching the pennies continue to invest in training? And why should new businesses invest in training?
Those involved in training argue that it gives companies a cutting edge because it helps ensure that employees are innovative. If they do not open their minds to different ways of thinking, they are unlikely to take advantage of opportunities when they present themselves.
Trainers acknowledge that in a recession, it is tempting to scrap training budgets and neglect the development of a company’s most important asset, their people.
However, they say that investing in talented staff can make all the difference when it comes to winning contracts and launching new ventures. It could even be the difference between survival and failure.
